Eve Online Experience Day 1

July 28th, 2008 | Filed under Eve Online, Game Experience.

300x250_05 I’m looking for an online game to play over a longer period of time, and I’m a bit inclined towards something more science fiction. The idea of a game where you get to build your own space empire always appealed to me, so I chose Eve Online to test for the next two weeks, until the free trial expires. It should be plenty of time to find out if this is the game I want to pay for in order to play.

Registration and download went nicely, no problems here.

Getting started with Eve Online

Took me quite a while to get through the character creation part, since I had no clue what to choose. I probably made a mess of it, combining everything I thought sounded good.

I would’ve loved some basic templates for character creation, each optimized for different things you want to do in the game.

Anyway, I ended up with a character with extra abilities when it comes to mining and fighting.

Doing the tutorials

If it’s the first time playing Eve Online, I’d recommend doing the tutorials. Learning how to fight, checking wrecks, mine asteroids or warp are a few of the things tutorials teach you.

First impressions

I love it so far. A huge universe with tens of thousands of players online at the same time, the promise of huge battles between fleets of ships later on, the graphics (and the explosions). Can’t wait to learn more about it and explore what I can do in it.

The interface could be a bit better I guess and more straightforward. Why not put something there called "Move into weapons range and attack", instead of clicking approach or orbit at 1500 meters, then locking on, then clicking on the weapon icon.
